CLINICAL OFFICERS IN KENYA THREATEN TO STRIKE

By Suleiman Ndoro (Dr Audi)

After the stalling of their negotiations of their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has threatened to go on strike.

The KUCO is demanding risk and call allowances raised from Ksh 3,000 and Ksh 10,000 to Ksh 30,000 and Ksh 70,000.

They also want health workers’ allowances raised from Ksh 20,000 to Ksh 30,000. The union also wants the government to employ additional 4,700 clinical officers and an improved comprehensive medical cover.

The KUCO Chairman Peterson Wachira cited a lack of cooperation from the Ministry of Labour as a reason that will drive members to industrial action.
