HOW TO START A SIMPLE CLINIC
BY: SIRMIE KARIS CANTONA

Today, Medwax Media Group brings you the procedure to help you start a simple medical clinic. Follow the steps below and get informed.
What do you need?
1. Register a business name or company: This is done in a cyber-café in the e-citizen portal
2. Choose a good location: Can be an area with a good catchment and flow of customers or referrals. You can either begin with one room and subdivide it with MDF/Plywood or have 2 rooms.
3. Purchase equipment: Must have: Examination couch, thermometer, BP machine, stethoscope, a table, 2 -5 chairs and curtain. Should have: Pulse oximetre, nebulizer, suture pack, autoclave and MVA kit.
4. Staff: Clinics are registered by qualified staff i.e. doctors, clinical officers or nurses
5. Inspection by public health: Go to the nearest county public health office, pay a clinic inspection fee. Once they inspect the clinic and they are satisfied, you will be provided with relevant inspection report to submit to regulatory body i.e. KMPDB, COC or Nursing council. If the report is positive, you can commence as you follow up with the regulatory body.
6. Registration: Depending on your designation, submit the public health report to your respective regulatory body for registration which ranges between Kshs 10,000 – 25,000.
7. NHIF Accreditation follow up: After registration, you can follow up with your nearest NHIF office for accrediting. Currently NHIF only accredits clinics registered by KMPDB.
8. Advertisement: Design a good banner, paint your clinic nicely, advertise and wait for customers. 9. The future: With patience and hard work you can upgrade it to a chain of clinics, a nursing home, a cottage hospital or even a fully-fledged hospital.

All the best, as you invest!!
