HOW TO START A HOME HEALTH CARE COMPANY

Home health care business
entails providing medical care and treatment to patients at the comfort of
their homes. Home health care services can range from basic nursing, wound
care, change of catheters, anticoagulant injections/DVT care, and toilet services
to more advanced medical care during visits.
In the Kenyan market it's
suitable for well up/wealthy clients who can't make it to hospital or those who
need long term care and treatment.
Patients suffering from
lifestyle diseases e.g. stroke and post-surgery patients who need frequent
medical attention from change of catheters, dressings or drainage pipes.
Steps
1. Write a home health care business plan. Include the types of patients you intend to serve, the coverage area of your business, the specific services you intend to provide and financials, such as expenses to run the business and expected income for the business.
2. Contact the department of health services for the county in which you want to open the business. This department provides all of the paperwork and documents you have to complete, and submit fees for filing to open a home health care business.
3. Identify the types of employees you need to hire. e.g. clinical officers, nurses or an assistant trained in Basic life support (BLS). If you are a trained medical professional, you may be able to visit patient homes by yourself & leave your staff to take care of the patients.
4. Register a business name or a company.
5. Buy equipment, medical supplies, stationaries i.e. Thermometers, BP machines, pulse oximetres, weighing machines, drip stands, infusion sets, drip stands, ambo bags, small oxygen cylinder, nebulizer, defibrillator, fluids and drugs.
6. Create marketing materials. You need business cards, a website and brochures to promote your business to individual patients and to referral sources, such as doctors and hospitals.

Though
it's a new business concept in Kenya, it has been there in the US for
long. Avenue hospital is also practicing the same model & they are
doing pretty good.
