Kenya Clinical Officers Union to Launch Union officially

KENYA CLINICAL OFFICERS UNION (KUCO) TO LAUNCH FIRST SDC AND UNION OFFICIALLY An year after the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) had its union registered, the union is set to launch its first SDC. KUCO also has plans for the official launch of their union, vis-à-vis launching their UNION's strategic plan 2018-2022 and other Union policies. KUCO will launch its Union SDC on Friday 12th October 2018 at Eastland Hotel Nairobi and then launch the KUCO Union officially  which will be hosted at The Cathedral grounds in Nairobi the next day on Saturday 13th October 2018. Speaking on behalf of the KUCO NEC, the Secretary General of the union Mr Gibore invited all the Clinical Officers in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Rwanda to join their fellow Clinical Officers on their historical day. EXAMINATIONS: CLINICAL OFFICERS COUNCIL (COC) EXAMS

EXAMINATIONS CLINICAL OFFICERS COUNCIL (COC) SEPTEMBER EXAM The Clinical officers council  (COC) examinations for clinical medicine students across the country will be done on 11th and 12th September, 2018. The exam rehearsals will be done on 11th September 2018 and the examination will be done on the next day. The payment for the exams is Kshs 5,000 which are to be paid via MPESA. The deadline of the application and payment is 31st August 2018 and payment during examination dates will not be allowed.  The applications are to be done online via the portal after online registration. https://portal.clinicalofficerscouncil.org/practice/register

COUNTY NEWS: NAIROBI CLINICS AND CHEMISTS GET DEMOLISHED NEAR MAMA LUCY HOSPITAL PHOTO COURTESY OF THE STAR.CO.KE Days after the management of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital complained about the mushrooming private clinics around it, the city hall had its cry ad demolished private clinics, chemists and laboratories near it. This comes after the hospital said the private health facilities were tarnishing the name of the hospital and interfering with its operations. The demolitions were done yesterday on Wednesday August 22 2018 on an early morning ambush when county bulldozers descended on more than 30 private medical premises located opposite the hospital. This made the distraught owners lose items worth millions of shillings while they accused the county government of not notifying them of the impending demolitions.

MAMA LUCY HOSPITAL WANTS CLINICS AND CHEMISTS CLOSED Following claims by patients that they have been swindled by some of the hospital staff to go and buy drugs in the chemists opposite the hospital; the management of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital now wants the government to revoke the licenses of all drugs shops within its vicinity. The hospital’s superintendent Dr Musa Mohammed has written to the County government seeking its immediate intervention over the “mushrooming of clinics and pharmacies.” The superintendent accused the clinics and drug shops of directing the hospital’s clients to their facilities hence tarnishing the hospital’s name.

COUNTY NEWS The County with the highest malnutrition rate in Kenya While the national rate of malnutrition of Kenya being 35 per cent, the malnutrition rate of Kapenguria County is at 45.9 per cent. This makes it the county with the highest malnutrition rate in Kenya. This is according to Demographic Health Report 2014. The Ministry of Health statistics indicate that Kapenguria District Hospital receives 70 to 100 malnourished children every month. Women in the county blame idle men for the rise in malnutrition. Women are left with the burden of providing for the family while the men are away sitting under trees. This leaves women burdened with domestic and other chores hence left with little time to look for food.

WORLD NEWS EBOLA KILLS 55 PEOPLE IN DR CONGO THIS AUGUST The government of DR Congo was forced to initiate free treatment against Ebola after an outbreak that claimed the lives of 55 people since the start of the month. The current Ebola outbreak began on 1 st August in Mangina in North Kivu and this was the tenth outbreak to have struck DR Congo since 1976. The government’s aim of the free vaccine is to remove the financial barrier that could dissuade the population from going to the health center.

COUNTY NEWS: KIAMBU-Kiambu County receives Ksh 3.5 medicines from MEDS

KIAMBU Kiambu County receives Ksh 3.5 million medicines from MEDS Kiambu County has received medical supplies worth  3.5 million Kenyan shilling from Mission for Essential Drugs & Supplies (MEDS). The supplies were made under MEDS County Governments Strategic Partnership programme that was launched in 2013. MEDS usually supplies medicines and pharmaceutical products to more than 2,000 customers in Kenya and has been involved in quality assurance to help curb the proliferation of counterfeit medicines. Kiambu Governor, Mr Ferdinand Waititu said the drugs would be distributed to Kihara, Kiambu, Tigoni and Gatundu hospitals.

COUNTY NEWS: Governor Nanok vows to deal with lazy medics

TURKANA Governor Nanok vows to deal with medics The Turkana Boss, Governor Josphat Nanok has vowed to deal with 'lazy' doctors and nurses working in Lodwar County and Referral Hospital who abscond from work. Mr Nanok said this after receiving complaints from residents that they don't get services at the referral hospital especially at night. "I will personally start my own fact-finding mission to prove these allegations and no one should blame me," said Governor Nanok. Mr Nanok said that devolution has helped the number of doctors in the region rise from four to 70 and that of nurses rise from 250 to 1,300 and this makes the patients have a right to proper medical services irrespective of the time they visit the facility.
